In case you hadn't heard, Virginia is filling up with Hispanics. That's the latest unwelcome news from the University of Virginia's Weldon Cooper Center, which tracks demographics and is inadvertently documenting the insidious replacement of the native population with a new people. The Mother of Presidents and home of the oldest democratically elected legislature in the Western Hemisphere is turning into a multicultural mess.
Weldon Cooper's data are grim. The number of Hispanics in Virginia is 630,000, about 8 percent of the population. Since 1992, the population has increased 92 percent, more than double the growth of Hispanics nationally. Hispanics accounted for 13 percent of all Virginia's births in 2009.
Twenty-one percent of those children are living in poverty. And, as is typical with Third-Worlders, 20 percent of Hispanic households contain two or more families.
Those figures are just the snapshot. Buried deeper in Weldon Cooper's data are more alarming numbers. That is because Hispanics generally are just one part of the problem. Foreign-born Hispanics are the other, bigger part of the problem. A much bigger part.
The report says
"A little over half of the Hispanic population in Virginia was born in the U.S. The others are foreign-born immigrants. Among the foreign-born immigrants, roughly one quarter are naturalized citizens, and three quarters are non-citizen residents."
[Hispanics in Virginia, By Susan A. Clapp, (Email her)May 2011 PDF]
And "65 percent of non-citizen residents came to the United States within the last decade".
And many of those, of course, are illegal aliens.
As well, an even higher percentage of households contains more than one family if the family is foreign born: 24 percent.
Of course, it doesn't much matter to the average American white or black family whether Hispanics are packing 17 people into a two-bedroom split level—unless they happen to live next door. However, it will matter very much if they don't do well in school and can't get jobs.
But, according to Weldon Cooper, "[a]mong adults ages 25 and above, Hispanics have lower educational attainment. ... [T]his difference in educational attainment is attributable in large part to Hispanic immigrants, who typically come to the U.S. with low educational attainment."
Indeed, educational achievement for American-born Hispanics is similar to that of non-Hispanics. But foreign-born Hispanics, are well, a little stupid. About 40 percent don't have a high-school education. Apparently, Hispanics in general don't like school and frequently drop out. Almost 20 percent of Hispanics in the class of 2010 did so. Among the top reasons are poor English skills, dislike of school and "the belief that they do not need more education for the careers they plan to pursue." Well, if that career is following in the footsteps of Scarface's Tony Montana, they're probably right. By the end of grade school, after all, they should at least know how to count the drug money.
As for speaking English, 75 percent of Hispanics speak Spanish at home, and nearly 20 percent don't' speak English very well. "A little more than 5 percent," Weldon Cooper reports, "have no English skills."
These figures might account for the number of foreign-born Hispanics living in poverty. Again, while native-born Hispanics have similar poverty rates to native-born white and blacks, 15 percent of foreign born Hispanics are living in poverty. "In 2009, 44 percent and 54 percent, respectively, of U.S.-born and foreign-born Hispanic children lived in or near poverty, compared to 31 percent of non-Hispanic children."
Unsurprisingly, 55 percent of foreign-born Hispanics have no health insurance coverage.
Also unsurprisingly, 62 percent of the Hispanics live in Northern Virginia, where, with all the Arabs and other Muslims, they are turning what once was a beautiful and safe suburb of Washington D.C. into a polyglot nightmare. The Muslim population has increased to the point where the area is called Northern Virginiastan, and a part of Falls Church is called the Wahabi Corridor. If enough Hispanics convert to Islam, perhaps we can just rename it Cordoba.
Anyway, what the report doesn't say, naturally, is the damage these Hispanics cause. As VDare.com has repeatedly shown, the massive influx is Hispanics is increasing poverty rates, the cost of health-care, and, importantly, unemployment for blacks. Nor does the report discuss how many of Virginia's foreign-born are illegals. They cost Virginia about $1.7 billion annually, the Federation for American Immigration Reform avers.
Then, of course, there is the crime. And not just in Northern Virginia. Even the state's beautiful Shenandoah Valley is becoming a hotbed of Hispanic gang and sex crime. As I noted in two previous articles for VDARE.com, vicious gangs now operate in the Valley, not least of whom is the feral MS-13, which reached into sleepy Woodstock, Va. to murder a witness against them. Gang "taggings" are common up and down the Valley.
Beyond that, we have the quotidian routine of adult Hispanic raping young girls. That happened recently in Harrisonburg, where two Hispanics, in keeping with the cultural norm that sex with minor girls is perfectly acceptable, raped an 11-year-old. Then one of them beat up a jailer. His sentence for the crimes: 11 years in jail, albeit with 80 years suspended.[Rapist Gets 11 Years | City Man Receives Extra Time For Jailhouse Attack, By Pete DeLea, April 19, 2011]
The number of Hispanics in Virginia are, of course, merely a mirror of what is happening nationally. At 50 million, Hispanics are now nearly 20 percent of the American population. The Hispanic population grew 43 percent, more than 15 million, since 2000.
CNN.com columnist Ruben Navarette is enthusiastic about the prospect of a Latino United States. "[I]t's happening," he crowed, "much faster than anyone expected":
"One day soon, Hispanics will help define the worlds of media, politics, commerce, fashion, music, entertainment, sports and science. There will be no turning back.
"But you knew that already. Maybe your first hint was the Latina models on magazine covers. Or that salsa is more popular than ketchup. Or the Spanish-language billboards you see on rural highways. Or that some members of Congress gather weekly for Spanish lessons."[Is America becoming a Hispanic country, March 18, 2011]
Yes, we knew it. But some of us don't like it.
And none of us were asked.
