When Cubans recently began protesting against the tropical Gulag’s Communist government, all eyes were on the Republican Party’s Cuban-American contingent. From Rep. Maria Elvira Salazar (whom I have already exposed for her Open-Borders and PC chicanery) to Rep. Carlos Gimenez and Miami Mayor Francis Suarez, they have beaten their chests about getting tough on Cuba, including military intervention [Bombing Cuba an Option That 'Needs to Be Discussed,' Says Miami Mayor, by Daniel Villareal, Newsweek, July 13, 2021 ]. And of course there were GOP calls for taking in more Cuban refugees. As a Venezuelan immigrant, the Cuban government is no object of my admiration. But it’s laughable to suggest that it poses an existential threat to the US compared to America’s mounting immigration disaster. The National Question remains king among issues that must preoccupy patriots. And these Cuban Conquistador-Americans are no help.
Salazar and Gimenez both arrived in U.S. House in 2020, when Republicans made solid gains in suspicious contrast to Trump’s alleged defeat. Since then, Republican operatives have used them as diversity props to brag to the media about how hip the “new” GOP is[Meet the Diverse Field of GOP House Flippers, by John McCormack, NRO, November 13, 2020].
What amuses me, as a Venezuelan immigrant, about the GOP’s Diversity fetish is that Gimenez and Salazar are not the stereotypical typical brown/mestizo Hispanic (like me). Like many Cubans, they’re white. But for the Diversity-mau-maued GOP, a Spanish-sounding last name apparently will suffice.
Notoriously to Middle America’s detriment, the GOP is not fully onboard with the National Question. And by broadening its tent to try to include Hispanics and other non-foundational stock citizens, it is allowing a devious subset to carry out Open Borders Inc’s agenda under their nose. Republicans raving about their diversity gains with Hispanics should be careful about what they wish for. Eventually they’ll find themselves supporting “Republicans” who don’t have their ethnic interests at heart.
To their credit, Salazar and Gimenez do acknowledge that there’s a crisis on the border and the government should take a proactive role in resolving the matter. But that’s where the positives about the Hispanic duo end.
They’re still of the view that the current migration crisis will be resolved simply by granting a limited form of Amnesty. “The problem with the border is, it's an urgency that has overshadowed the importance of us giving some type of dignity or some type of resolution to those people who have been here for more than 10 years,” Salazar says. “We're talking about 11 million people that are waiting for an answer” [How 2 new Republicans want to reshape the GOP's immigration agenda, by Olivia Beavers, Politico, June 7, 2021 ].”
Salazar claims that Amnesty is not only a humane course of action but also a winning issue among Hispanics. WRONG. Most Hispanics could not care less about immigration. According to a recent Pew Research Center report, Hispanic voters placed immigration as their 13th most important issue [Economy and COVID-19 Top the Public’s Policy Agenda for 2021, Pew Research Center, January 28, 2021]. Other issues ,such as tackling the China virus, reforming education, and reducing healthcare costs were prioritized.
The lengths to which these GOP Diversity Trophies will go to justify their political existence is cringe-inducing. Salazar is of the view that her personal experience growing up in the “hood” will magically bring more Hispanics to the Republican fold[Exclusive: Inside Maria Elvira Salazar's encounter with Stephen Miller, by Olivia Beavers, Politico February 26, 2021].
EXCLUSIVE in Huddle this AM. I spoke w/ @RepMariaSalazar (R-Fla.) about her exchange w/ Stephen Miller & her message to the GOP:
— Olivia Beavers (@Olivia_Beavers) February 26, 2021
“I am a brown girl from the ‘hood, who is a Republican, who is coming to tell my party that it’s time to wake up and smell the votes,” she tells me.
Color me skeptical. Having grown up in Hispanic milieus both in the US and abroad, and having also studied the history of those cultures extensively, my views on the prospects of the GOP making long-term inroads with Hispanics are not sanguine.
As for Salazar’s immigration plan, as expounded to Politico above, it’s a mess. Salazar wants to allow illegal aliens to attain U.S. citizenship or at least Work Permits. She wants to provide a Deportation Protection Order for the so-called DREAMers. On top of that, her immigration proposal offers a 10-year path to renewable legal status to illegal aliens who have not committed additional crimes.
There’s a simple way to describe Salazar’s plan: It’s Amnesty.
To allay Immigration Patriot fears, Salazar pretends to attach border security provisions to her immigration legislation. Yes, any sane person obviously supports border security. But vows of border security are the ultimate bait-and-switch—e.g. Reagan’s 1986 Amnesty, when the Political Class nominally compromised on enforcing immigration law while granting Amnesty to nearly 3 million illegal aliens.
Rep. Gimenez, a former mayor of Miami-Dade and a Cuban immigrant himself, does not propose a radically different plan. It starts off by allowing illegals already working in the US to have a Pathway To Citizenship simply by applying via their country of origin without having to make a trip back to fill out the necessary paperwork.
Gimenez stresses the need to have more “border security” before other reforms such as implementing E-Verify. Is this is just a lazy effort to make sure that no meaningful immigration reforms are made?
As electorally destructive as the Stupid Party’s minority outreach program is, there is a consolation prize for GOP moles like Salazar and her ilk. It’s the cheap labor that she and her Hispanic Chamber of Commerce cronies will profit from. Miami Hispanic elites are already presiding over an urban area that resembles a Latin American fiefdom, where economic inequality and growing crime run rampant [Miami-Dade’s tale of two cities: 30 billionaires and the economic inequality of Colombia, by Andres Viglucci, Miami Herald, April 22, 2019; Miami-Dade top cops discuss growing rate of gun violence in area, by Kathleen Corso, L ocal10.com, December 15, 2020 ].
Salazar and Giménez are part of an ascendant class of politicians of foreign origins who are gradually taking over both parties to advance their own ethnic agendas. More often than not, their interests clash with the grassroots base of the parties they’re taking over.
This is most pronounced within the Republican Party, where its legacy white base is demanding less immigration. For example, a Pew Research poll published in early May of this year found that 78 percent of Republicans believed it was more important to reduce the number of migrants seeking asylum [Most Americans Are Critical of Government’s Handling of Situation at U.S.-Mexico Border, Pew Research Center, May 3, 2021].
But Cuban Republicans, from Mario Diaz-Balart to Marco Rubio, especially in the pre-Trump era, have shown receptiveness to Amnesty and expansions in legal immigration.
Gimenez and Salazar are simply following in their footsteps.
This faction within the GOP will present a major obstacle for patriots in the future. The Cuban Republicans and their pan-Hispanic allies in South Florida aren’t the typical lumpenproletariat Hispanics that you see on the block of your average barrio. For all intents and purposes, they’re an elite Conquistador caste who are ready to grab their own loot and seize political power—consequences to the Historic American be damned.
These “Hispanic” freshmen aren’t crazy Wokeoids like their Democrat colleague Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). But they offer no real solution to the existential, National Question issues of our time. The fact that they’re treating the immigration issue in a transactional manner that is subject to negotiation is fatal evidence.
Not to mention, they offer no real solutions to America’s perpetual immigration crisis. You will see no utterances of sensible immigration reforms such as an immigration moratorium
Sure, Florida Cubans represent a commendable faction within the modern Republican Party. But, if we’re being brutally honest, they will be of little assistance to American immigration patriots who desire a demographically stable America.
Bluntly, they represent a new faction in the Hostile Elite who will work to dispossess Legacy Americans—albeit with a Caribbean flavor.
No Bueno, if you ask me.
