Memo From Mexico: South Of The Border, Moaning, Meddling Hypocritical Mexicans In A Tizzy Over Trump

I’m in Mexico right now, on our annual summer visit, and I can tell you Mexico is in a tizzy over Donald Trump. It’s not surprising—the media, political class, and many Mexican people simply don’t believe America has the right to control its own border. (He even has a nickname, el Pelucon, “The Wig”) And yet underneath it all is real fear—because Trump has put the responsibility for the immigration crisis squarely on the Mexican government.

That may explain why former Mexican President Vicente Fox has been one of the most eager to attack The Donald. Fox wasn’t even in Mexico but was exiting a restaurant in Los Angeles when he encountered a TMZ reporter who asked him about Trump. Fox replied (in Spanish):

“[Trump] acted like an idiot. I don’t know how he’s made so much money, he doesn’t deserve it. As punishment he should donate all his money to resolve the immigration problem.”

Well, Trump is trying to solve the problem, just not the way Fox wants it solved! And you can tell Fox’s anger at Trump is real from the video, as he passionately insults an American presidential candidate while on U.S. soil.

Latin America as a whole is also eager to bash Trump. Oddly enough, many of the attacks revolve around him owning the Miss Universe Pageant.

misscolombiaThe current Miss Universe, Colombian Paulina Vega (see picture, right) has joined in the anti-Trump chorus and her homeland has withdrawn its application to host the next pageant. Mexico, Costa Rica and Panama are also boycotting the pageant by not sending a contestant [Miss Universe Beauty Queens Wrestle With Donald Trump's Mexican Comments, by Sarah Berger, International Business Times, July 8, 2015].

Of course, this is absurd grandstanding. If anything, the Miss Universe pageant under Trump has been biased in favor of Latin American contestants—and it’s rumored The Donald himself has a big say in who is crowned.

In the Trump years, 1997 to 2015, there have been 19 Miss Universes chosen. Three were from Venezuela, two from the Dominican Republic, and one apiece from Colombia, the Dominican Republic, and Panama. In 2010, Miss Mexico Jimena (Ximena) Navarrete was crowned. (Below right. ) Jimena-Navarrete-6[1]

That means nine out of 19 Miss Universes have been from Latin America. And in the last five years, 3 out of 5 were from Latin America. (The 2012 Miss Universe, from the U.S., was Olivia Culpo, of Italian ancestry, but was widely supposed to be Hispanic. And it certainly didn’t hurt her—she won).

Yet suddenly Donald Trump, of all people, is said to be anti-Hispanic.

Ironically, not for the first time, Mexicans think it’s fine for them to do what they condemn Americans for.

Thus uncomfortable questions about Guatemalan illegals were raised during a speech by local government candidate Mario Guillen of the Green Party. When speaking about crime in Comitan, a city in the Mexican state of Chiapas bordering Guatemala, Guillen said: “Here we say no to the criminals, they should go to Guatemala, go the other side.” [¿El "Trump Mexicano"? Guatemala Protesta Por Comentarios Del Candidato Del PVEM en Chiapas , LatinoPost, July 6, 2015].

There were naturally some comparisons to Guillen as the “Mexican Trump.” [Candidato del PVEM en Chiapas es el “Donald Trump mexicano,” Terra, July 3, 2015]. Yet while there was some backlash, no one argued there weren’t Guatemalan criminals in Mexico.

Speaking of criminals, Trump is also receiving death threats from the infamous drug cartel kingpin Joaquin “el Chapo” Guzman. After hearing of Guzman’s escape from a Mexican prison, Donald Trump tweeted

He followed by saying,

This apparently attracted the attention of el Chapo or somebody tweeting in his name, who responded. One of them was directed to Trump:

“Sigue chingando y voy hacer que te tragues todas tus putas palabras pinche guero cagaleche” (2:13 p.m.)
Translation includes approximate translations of Spanish profanities: “Keep f—king with me and I’m going to make you swallow your f—king words, f—king light-skinned f*ggot.” (The implications of the homophobic insult “cagaleche” are so obscene I suggest you not Google them.)

Trump has apparently reported the threat to the FBI, but it hasn’t stopped him from telling it as he sees it. Trump said that

"El Chapo and the Mexican drug cartels use the border unimpeded like it was a vacuum cleaner, sucking drugs and death right into the US. We get the killers, drugs and crime, they get the money."

"I'm fighting for much more than myself. I'm fighting for the future of our country which is being overrun by criminals. You can't be intimidated. It's too important."

El Chapo Guzman 'vows to make Donald Trump swallow his words', By Nick Allen, Telegraph, July 13,2015

Of course, “El Chapo” is proving Trump’s point about Mexican criminality coming to the United States. Who will Jeb Bush and the RNC back—the drug kingpin or the hated Trump? And who can say that Trump was wrong about the border?

No one in Mexico seems eager to put Trump’s candidacy in context. Instead, there’s a furious anger he has broken several taboos shared by both the Mexican and American Main Stream Media.

  1. You can talk vaguely about border security, but you are not allowed to say negative things about illegal aliens.
  2. You better not connect illegal immigration to crime.
  3. You must not criticize the Mexican government.
Trump has violated all these taboos and more, and is openly faulting the Mexican government for promoting illegal emigration to the United States. But it’s absolutely true, and I’ve been writing  about this for years.

Mass emigration of Mexicans to the U.S. is a part of Mexico’s strategy, regardless of which political party is running Mexico. Furthermore, the government of Mexico is openly meddling, and has for years, in our internal politics and immigration policies.

The hysterical PC outcry in both Mexico and America reflects fear that people are listening to Trump. It shows the powers that be are worried he might start talking about other Mexican government policies, such as its claim of jurisdiction over Americans of Mexican ancestry.

The war against Trump in Mexico isn’t about “speaking truth to power.” It’s about reinforcing power and defending the status quo.

And as the campaign against Trump grows ever more hysterical, it shows the most terrifying truth of all for those in power in Mexico City and Washington DC—when it comes to the border, Donald Trump is right.
