Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh is facing yet another thinly sourced and obviously problematic accusation of sexual misconduct as his confirmation draws near. But it’s painfully obvious that for many of Kavanaugh’s critics, the DC Circuit Court judge is guilty simply because he embodies the preppy WASP archetype. As leftist New York Times columnist Paul Krugman [Email him]put it on Twitter, “Whatever eventually happens, Kavanaugh was clearly a smarmy, smirking, entitled and mercenary guy; the odds that he had some kind of skeleton in his closet were pretty good.”
The accusations against Kavanaugh are razor-thin and poorly remembered by his accusers. But journalists/Leftist Enforcers wishing to smear the nominee as a rapist merely turn to his background in order to accomplish their objective. According to the movies and popular culture, Kavanaugh’s milieus make him guilty enough.
Thus he was a popular jock at an elite prep school who helped run the “Keg City Club.” At Yale, he was a member of the exclusive (and much-criticized) Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity—the same fraternity to which George W. Bush (and four other Presidents) belonged. Both of these are considered “problematic” by the chattering class and popular culture. They’re too white, too privileged, too macho, too conservative, too bigoted, and just too damn exclusive. Pretty much every high school or college comedy film reinforces this caricature of Kavanaugh’s crowd. Just watch Revenge of the Nerds to witness one of the worst examples of this rancid animosity.
New Yorker writers Ronan Farrow [Email him] and Jane Mayer [Email her] played this bias up to full effect in their report on the latest allegation against Kavanaugh. A Yale classmate of the judge claims he flashed her at a party in 1983. Even though all eyewitnesses deny this incident took place, the accuser’s close friends say they have never heard of it, and the accuser took six days to “carefully [assess] her memories” to say Kavanaugh was the flasher, the New Yorker still ran this smear. [Senate Democrats Investigate A New Allegation Of Sexual Misconduct, From Brett Kavanaugh’s College Years, by Ronan Farrow and Jane Mayer, New Yorker, September 23, 2018]
Tellingly, to help their case Farrow and Mayer spent an inordinate amount of time trying to impugn Kavanaugh’s character by diving into unrelated details about his prep school and fraternity. “While at Yale, Kavanaugh became a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, or ‘DKE,’ which several students said was known for its wild and, in the view of some critics, misogynistic parties,” reads their reference to Kavanaugh’s fraternity.
The worst example of this guilt by association was this lone claim that Kavanaugh hailed from a “rape culture” because some guys from his prep school liked to give girls alcohol in the hope they would sleep with them:
Another woman who attended high school in the nineteen-eighties in Montgomery County, Maryland, where Georgetown Prep is located, also refuted Judge’s account of the social scene at the time, sending a letter to Ford’s lawyers saying that she had witnessed boys at parties that included Georgetown Prep students engaging in sexual misconduct. In an interview, the woman, who asked to have her name withheld for fear of political retribution, recalled that male students “would get a female student blind drunk” on what they called ‘jungle juice’—grain alcohol mixed with Hawaiian Punch—then try to take advantage of her.
It’s unclear how the behavior of one group of Georgetown Prep students proves anything about Kavanaugh—whom no-one alleges was involved—but the Main Stream Media seems to believe this is enough indict the SCOTUS nominee. Even prior to the New Yorker hit job, The Washington Post ran an entire article on how misogyny allegedly ran rampant at prep schools in the 1980s i.e. Kavanaugh must be guilty. [In the ’80s, boys’ prep schools like Kavanaugh’s could be bastions of misogyny, by Greg Jaffe, Washington Post, September 20, 2018]
In other words, every male who went to a prep school or joined a fraternity is a possible rapist.
Good ol’ WASPophobia is undeniably at work here. Ironically, however, Kavanaugh is not a WASP. He’s in fact the ancient enemy of the Anglo-Saxon: the Irish Catholic. But while America has changed dramatically since the days when actual WASPs constituted the national elite, the culture still likes to claim they rule. The stereotype no longer requires Anglo-Saxon ancestry or Protestant upbringing—you just have to be a white male who exhibits a preppy aesthetic.
It could be viewed as a triumph for assimilationist hopes. Irish Catholics, the historic enemies of the WASPs, can now be WASPs themselves!
But it isn’t considered a triumph. WASPophobia continues to linger because it supports to the anti-white animus among America’s Leftist Ruling Class. The Left likes to foist upon America the false notion that stodgy conservative white men still rule the country, even though our actual elite looks nothing like the DKE fraternity composite of Kavanaugh’s days.
This animus has played out several times in the past in regards to false rape accusations. The Duke Lacrosse case featured three preppy white males accused of sexually assaulting a black stripper. The MSM ate it up because it wanted to believe these young men would do such a thing. As we all know, it turned out to be a vile smear against three innocent individuals.
Similarly, the notorious Rolling Stone “A Rape on Campus” hoax was based on a young woman concocting a gang rape committed by a fraternity at the University of Virginia. The entire thing was fiction, but that didn’t stop multiple MSM outlets condemning fraternities as dangerous institutions that need to be shut down immediately. The Ruling Class already believed fraternities gang rape innocent girls left and right, the hoax just confirmed their belief. [Greek Gangs, by Colin Downes, Slate, December 5, 2014]
Brett Kavanaugh is the latest victim of this Ruling Class bias. But it will only grow stronger as anti-white racism becomes more institutionalized.
As Ann Coulter says: “If you fit the narrative, you are guilty and there is no coming back from that and it’s not just Democrats and the media running the country, it’s any white male can be accused with an evidence-free accusation like this.” [Ann Coulter Warns That ‘Any White Male Can Be Accused’ Like Kavanaugh, by Jon Levine, The Wrap, September 24, 2018]
If Kavanaugh was a black Muslim like, say, Keith Ellison, these allegations would have never been aired in public. But because he’s a conservative white male from an upper-class background, he has to suffer through this torment.
This is our politics now. And we haven’t seen the worst of it yet.
