Earlier: Assaulted With Machetes, Beaten With Firearms And Clubs, Traumatized And Killed: December Farm Attacks In South Africa

Multiple home invasions with large numbers of home invaders sound more like Mau Mau terrorism than crime, but that‘s what continues in South Africa. At least some of the victims are armed and allowed to fight back.

  • A 76-year-old woman was ambushed in Hartbeespoort, North West province, South Africa.

The seven attackers earlier bound four farm workers, leaving them in an outbuilding. When the woman arrived home she was dragged from her car, bound, and placed in the outbuilding. She suffered head injuries.

One of the workers managed to free himself after the assailants had left.

  • A 65-year-old farmer was beaten, gagged and robbed after being confronted at his home in Steytlerville, Eastern Cape province.

The farmer was approached by a stranger who entered his house through an unlocked door. The man asked the farmer to take him to his disabled vehicle a few miles away. When no vehicle was found, the man then asked the farmer to take him to town. Once there, the man demanded a gun. The farmer complied after being assaulted with a meat slicer. The attacker stole the victim’s vehicle, which was later found at the farm, where cash was discovered missing.

The suspect was spotted three days later, still wearing blood-stained jeans, and was arrested after his photo was shown to the victim. The news story describes the victim as a "Good Samaritan." Readers of John Derbyshire will know what that means.
