These are reported farm attacks in December:

• Johan Prinsloo, 73, was fatally shot on a farm near Koppies south of Sasolburg in the Free State province of South Africa.

At least four attackers opened fire on Prinsloo and one of his employees.

The attackers fled. Nothing was stolen.

The incident occurred November 30, 2021.

• 29-year-old Christiaan van Tonder was fatally shot on his cattle farm near Steynsrus in the Free State province.

The number of attackers is unknown.

• A farmhouse was invaded in Virginia in the Free State province.

Five armed invaders participated. The 43-year-old farmer was bound and assaulted. The attackers ransacked the home before fleeing.

Four of the attackers were later arrested.

• A 57-year-old farmer was assaulted by two attackers in the Fort Beaufort district in the Eastern Cape province.

The farmer was bound, then beaten after he was unable to produce keys to a safe. The attackers fled with a television and cell phone.

• A farmer was attacked by five individuals at his home in Wellington, in the Western Cape province.

Police were alerted to the robbery in progress and apprehended two suspects. One of the officers was injured by gun fire.

• Family members were bound and assaulted at their farm home in Louwsburg near Vryheid, in the KwaZulu-Natal province.

The five attackers fled in the family’s pickup truck. Family members managed to free themselves hours after the attack and alerted authorities.

• A young woman was assaulted by three attackers at a farm in the Wittenberg area, south of Piet Retief, in the Mpumalanga province.

The three attackers assaulted the woman in a garden while her father was away. They stole a rifle from the farm house.

• Six armed attackers raided a farm in Middelburg in the Mpumalanga province.

Security guards were bound and assaulted. The attackers loaded two pickup trucks with stolen goods, two unregistered vehicles, and other items.

• Two attackers invaded the farm home of Willem and Lulu Nel between Bambi and Lydenburg, in the Mpumalanga province.

The attackers demanded money and stole a television and phones. The fled in the couple’s vehicle.
