We have recently learned that Professor Elizabeth Warren has been describing herself as both a “Native American” and “minority” for several years. She claims that she was unaware that such descriptions appeared in her faculty biographies at Harvard Law School, but that is a difficult sell. According to The Boston Globe, Warren was also listed as a minority professor when she previously taught at the University of Texas and the University of Pennsylvania. Warren apparently has some small amount of Indian blood in her, but she has probably never stepped foot on an actual reservation.

Similarly, I have been told that my paternal great-grandmother was a Cree Indian, a subject that only comes up at the occasional family function. But I remember learning about her when I was a kid and thinking it was very cool because it allowed me to usurp the Indian role during games of Cowboys & Indians.

I mean, any fool can shoot a musket, but how cool is it to be able to throw a tomahawk?
