From the Evanston (Illinois) Township High School course catalog, four racially segregated math classes:
Evanston is a pretty interesting place: it’s the original northern suburb of Chicago, on the lakefront just past the big city’s northern border. It’s home to Northwestern University, and to America’s top-scoring white public school students, according to the Stanford database of test scores. As I wrote a few years ago:
The top average white students in any school district are in Evanston, Ill., at [grade level] 9.8 (i.e., the average white Evanston sixth grader achieves like the typical student finishing tenth grade), 4.3 grades about the national average (all races). … The school districts with the biggest white-black gaps in test scores are: Berkeley, Calif., Chapel Hill, N.C., Evanston, Ill., Asheville, N.C., Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Ga., and University City, Mo., all intensely Democratic.
Evanston is so woke that it’s the first place in the U.S. to hand out reparation checks to blacks.
Much of Evanston consists of superb suburban domestic architecture, with the lakefront mansions some of the most imposing I’ve ever seen. But last time I was there in the 1990s, Evanston also had a micro-slum about four blocks across that looked like East St. Louis in National Lampoon’s Vacation. Apparently, this was where the mansion owners’ black servants lived in the early 20th century.
From a middle-class black Evanstonian in the 1990s, I learned that people like her sent their kids to Evanston’s Catholic schools because the blacks in the public schools tended to be from the mini-‘hood, and they didn’t want their kids associating with such bad role models.
Presumably, the racially segregated math classes are so blacks and Hispanics can get the GPA boost from taking a nominal Advanced Placement class without holding back the children of Northwestern professors.
Lots of schools have tracking that leads to a lot of segregation, but the segregation is hilariously blatant in this case.
