Earlier: NBC: Time to Make Voting Republican Illegal Because It's Racist
Noah Berlatsky's argument yesterday on NBC (Trump voters motivated by racism may be violating the Constitution. Can they be stopped?) that what Trump voters do in the privacy of the voting booth is unconstitutional is literally insane.
It also involves a lot of things that are true only in Berlatsky's own mind. (Contra Berlatsky, Mexicans are rapists, and crime was going up.)
But if Trump voters are, thanks to Berlatsky's mind reading, "motivated" by racism, voting for a candidate who implicitly represents their racial interests, how much more are African-American voters, especially those who voted for President Obama?
Blacks vote 90 per cent Democratic, for explicitly racial reasons, even in years when there's no black candidate to vote for.
When Obama was the nominee, they voted at the 98 per cent level for the candidate who represented their race.
And Obama's racial appeals weren't any kind of dog whistle—they were a screaming klaxon.
Obama said "If I had a son, he'd look like Trayvon." Obama supported the Ferguson rioters. When blacks rioted in Ferguson, Obama sent in Federal agents...to investigate the Ferguson PD.
Obama supported the Baltimore rioters. The Obama White House sent an aide–a black aide–to Freddie Gray’s funeral, while Baltimore was burning in 2015.
When a black gunman, inspired by Black Lives Matter and Obama's own rhetoric, killed five cops in Dallas, Obama said it was “very hard to untangle the motives of this shooter.”
So, Mr. Berlatsky, can anything be done about these racist votes?
