Did you know Chick-fil-A also serves Turkey?
More debris is falling from the Chick-fil-A land mine Romney stepped on Friday: Catholic League Chief ‘Astonished’ By Romney Chick-fil-A Stance By David A. Patten Monday Newsmax 06 Aug 2012
“This is the most disheartened that certainly I’ve felt looking at this entire race,” said Catholic League president Bill Donohue. He told Newsmax in an exclusive interview that social conservatives will now have to decide whether to sit out the race.
Pat Buchanan was also quoted
...telling Politico that Republicans must push back against gay marriage or risk losing social conservatives for a generation.
“I don’t understand why Mitt Romney doesn’t just get his Secret Service detail and take his press corps down to a Chick-fil-A and show solidarity with these people,” Buchanan said, adding: “. . . Reagan would have walked right on down there naturally.”
I see Pat concluded his Thursday column meaningfully
...if the Tampa Republicans are unwilling to fight the culture war, culture warriors should look to themselves.
Also Richard Viguerie:
...who told Newsmax: "Governor Romney has once again disappointed the conservative base of the Republican Party by refusing to support Chick-fil-A when they were attacked by Democrat politicians and others who favor the radical homosexual agenda.
While President Obama united the base of the Democratic Party by appealing to those interests, Governor Romney's silence has merely served to unite the Fortune 500 and other establishment interests he already had behind his candidacy."
Viguerie seems to be getting interested in this excessive corporate influence theme, as Peter Brimelow noted recently in Brilliant Viguerie Post On Conservatism Inc.
I think Romney has real if totally reprehensible reasons to have got into this mess as I suggested today in Why Did Romney Wimp Out on Chick-fil-A? Follow The Money But even so the ineptitude and stupidity is astonishing. As with the Administrative Amnesty debacle, he could have sheltered behind a denunciation of the misuse of political procedure, merely saying employing the machinery of local government to promote homosexual aggrandizement was wrong.
