Even in Texas, thought and speech crimes can get you arrested.
This Thursday, Police in Plano, Texas arrested a self-described Mexican-American woman on misdemeanor charges of “assault bodily injury” and “terroristic threats” and held her on $10,000 bond. The video is here. The viewer may judge whether Señora Esmeralda Upton actually assaulted anyone.

Señora Upton is alleged to have said (check the video), “I hate you Indian. All these Indians come to America because they want a better life.” Oh, and she used the F-word and called the Indian ladies “curry-assed bitches.”
Another member of the (Asian) Indian group, Bidisha Rudra, reportedly said, “A lot of people are asking what triggered this behavior. Answer is ‘nothing.’ We were talking amongst ourselves when she walked by and made a racially insinuating comment. And kept coming back to add additional insults as captured in the video. This unprovoked attack terrifies us even more.“ The Rudras are “often identified with Maruts, the Vedic gods of storms and tempests. They are said to be eleven in number and born to Kashyapa and Aditi. They are associated with Lord Siva, as his followers and part of His retinue (siva ganas). Siva, the Destroyer, is also known as Rudra in the Vedas. Rudra is the Lord of the Rudras.”
In a remarkable gesture of solidarity, Faizan Syed, executive director of the Council of American Islamic Relations (CAIR), said, “The level of vitriol and alleged physical assault against four Indian-American women in Plano is truly appalling. This type of hate has no place in North Texas, and we call on law enforcement to investigate this incident as a hate crime.” Who knew that Muslims had such affection for Hindus and such deep attachment to the culture of North Texas?
