Is the age of globalism ending? This was one of the hallmarks of the Trump campaign in 2016, and during his inauguration speech on January 20, 2017, Trump  said, “Americanism, not globalism, will be our credo.”

With the global onslaught of coronavirus, we are seeing the consequences of globalism helping unleash a virus, starting in China, all over the world. And the consequences should be a canary in the coal mine for confirming Trump’s credo. Well, one our intellectual betters has decided the only concept worth salvaging in the chaos of coronavirus is globalism. Steve Pinker Tweeted:

The Coronavirus Pandemic is one of many reasons neo-nationalism is destructive & ultimately futile. Viruses (like greenhouse gases, cybercriminals, dark money, terrorists, pirates, & technology) don’t care about lines on a map.

Thankfully, Dr. Greg Johnson, the editor of Counter Currents, set him straight with a pithy retort:

Unlike greenhouse gasses & hackers, corona virus carriers can be stopped by borders, quarantines, & other perfectly effective nationalist measures. Your position is simply a nomad's preference for porous borders disguised as fake inevitability.

Americanism must always be our credo, and as Enoch Powell said so long ago, “The supreme function of statesmanship is to provide against preventable evils.”

That’s what borders do. That’s what quarantines, enacted by forward-thinking elected officials, do to protect their people.

Let’s hope, as coronavirus fears spread across the globe, we are in the late-stages of globalism, and the return of Americanism as our guiding principle.
