In the month of December, the United States southern border saw 251,000 illegal alien crossings—the highest of any month in U.S. history.

The majority of the “migrants” will receive tax-payer funded aid, from free shelter to compensated air travel, and religious charities are playing a key role. When Texas Governor Greg Abbott sent busloads of illegals to Washington D.C. last year, Catholic Charities greeted them with a warm welcome.

The federal government relies on surrogates like Catholic Charities to manage illegal-alien invaders. Under President Trump, the group received an average of $212 million annually for immigration-related services. However, last year under President Biden they raked in nearly $600 million, more than half of their annual budget.

It isn’t too shocking that Catholic Charities plays a major role in the invasion. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops aggressively pushes for mass immigration and Amnesty. Pope Francis also demands the West open its borders to illegals.

Fortunately, Republicans are finally taking notice. A letter signed by Republican house members accuses Catholic Charities of violating federal law, adding that American citizens should not be funding organizations who move illegals across the border.

Anthony Granado, a senior lobbyist for Catholic Charities, responded by saying the group will continue their work, and that the gospel compels them to do so.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott directed his state’s attorney general Ken Paxton to inquire into allegations that these groups are helping illegals enter the country.

“There have been recent reports that non-governmental organizations may have assisted in illegal border crossing near El Paso,”

“We further understand NGOs may be engaged in unlawfully orchestrating other border crossings through activities on both sides of the border, including in sectors other than El Paso”

The GOP pressure on these charities is a good start. But real action is required. The lawmakers who wrote the letter must make good on their word and investigate.
