We live in a media culture that treats trivia and artificial scandals as “breaking news.” Perhaps it’s time for the Democratic Party to take advantage of this continual hysteria and gave the press something important to talk about – a return to the traditional progressive position of immigration patriotism.
What we have today is a culture that demands politicians make constant petty pronouncements on the passing scene. A typical example is Hillary Clinton essentially being forced to say something about the tragic situation in Ferguson, Missouri. The Huffington Post hinted that Mrs. Clinton waited too long, blaring the headline, “Hillary Clinton Breaks Silence On Ferguson.” [By Mollie Reilly, Huffington Post, August 28, 2014]
The story seems to be that Clinton said something, instead of saying something important. But for my part, this Democrat wishes she had said something substantial about why urban conditions are so intolerable.
Why are our cities such a disaster? As her husband’s campaign might have said, “It’s the numbers, stupid!”
You can’t add over 100 million people in 50 years—a 50% increase over our 1965 population—without consequences. Our current population is well over 300 million people, with hundreds of millions more to be added this century. How could this population explosion possibly enhance our ability to educate and integrate our already burgeoning Third World population?
Now add to this volatile mix ethnic nepotism, rampant tribalism, and resurgent religious fundamentalism, especially in the form of militant Islam. All it would take is another terrorist attack and the resulting dystopia would give George Orwell nightmares.
The obvious solution is an immigration moratorium. However, sensible policy solutions that could be supported by the reasonable left and right are today overwhelmed by the reckless greed of corporatists seeking taxpayer subsidized cheap labor, ethnic chauvinists seeking more adherents, and religious leaders hoping to pack their pews.
There is no problem facing the United States of America that can possibly be helped by adding hundreds of millions more people. Even leaving aside questions of culture and assimilation, the sheer strain on resources is sufficient to break America’s already crumbling infrastructure.
The consequences are already apparent in cities all around the country like Ferguson. Militarized police are in some ways a response to police departments dealing with cities that are growing more chaotic and ungovernable.
And even once prosperous cities like Lynn, Massachusetts are being financially ruined because of the costs of dealing with massive amounts of illegal alien “refugees” dumped by the federal government. One of the consequences in this city was the elimination of an effective community policing program that had reduced gang violence. We can expect more tensions between the police force and the people as an unwanted side effect of immigration anarchy and the costs it imposes.
Of course it is important to protest racial injustice. But it’s also important to protest other injustices, like the costs imposed on communities all around the country by Barack Obama’s refusal to enforce the law.
Hillary Clinton could transform the national conversation by talking about these issues. After all, it’s not like she is getting any credit for speaking out about Ferguson.
“Clinton applauded President Barack Obama for sending Attorney General Eric Holder to Ferguson to "see that justice is done, to help this community begin healing itself."Of course, where are Al Sharpton and other African-American leaders on immigration issues? After all, it’s African-Americans who are hurt the mostby increased legal and illegal immigration? Does Sharpton care? Or does he somehow fear being tied to “racism?”Until Thursday's remarks, the former secretary of state and potential 2016 presidential candidate had yet to acknowledge the protests in Ferguson. The Rev. Al Sharpton, who spoke at Brown's funeral on Monday, called out Clinton on her silence last week.
"This is now a national, central issue, and anyone running for president needs to come up with a formula, or, in my opinion, they forfeit their right to be taken seriously," he said. "I'm amazed that we're not hearing from leading candidates ... Chris Christie or Jeb Bush or Hillary Clinton. I land in New York this morning, and I see Chris Christie dancing with Jamie Foxx."

Behind the dramatic, terrible pictures on television, there are deep challenges that will be with them and with us long after the cameras move on," she said. "This is what happens when the bonds of trust and respect that hold any community together fray."

American communities can’t simultaneously achieve effective and compassionate community policing and an ever increasing population. Mass immigration will lead to less freedom, less safety, and less social harmony for all American citizens.
The whole point for the Democratic Party is to represent the common man. It’s time for Democrats to start doing it. If the media is constantly searching for an exciting new story, let’s give them one.
