Previously: Biden’s Immigration Arrogance May Cost Dems Vital Georgia Senate Seats

The GOP is worried about the January 5 Georgia Senate runoffs. As well it should be. Losing will cost the party its U.S. Senate majority. Yet Georgia’s Stupid Party hacks are doing little to mobilize the base vote, partly because Bush torpedo Karl Rove is helping run the show [Karl Rove to helm massive GOP fundraising drive for Georgia runoffs, by Alex Isenstadt, Politico, November 16, 2020]. Trump is set to rally for Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler next Saturday. But to win, the GOP should ignore pro-immigration Rove and pound home two messages: An illegal-alien Amnesty is coming if they lose both seats; and Democrats are trying to steal them, just like they arguably robbed Trump of a second term.

Amnesty is the critical issue, but you wouldn’t notice it from the campaigns. Of course, the two hard-Left Democrats, Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, won’t discuss it. But, amazingly, Perdue and Loeffler are ignoring it, too. “We are the firewall to socialism in America,” Loeffler recently said in fluent Mitch-McConnellese. Though both support Trump’s election challenges and have called for the state’s quisling GOP Secretary of State to resign, they seem implicitly to accept Trump’s coming departure from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue [In Georgia, Republicans juggle Biden win and Trump loyalties, by Bill Barrow, The Associated Press, November 26, 2020].So why not hammer on the Biden Amnesty to bring white a.k.a. American voters to the polls?

Amnesty is, after all, Biden’s chief legislative item in his first 100 days. “I made a commitment, in the first 100 days, I will send an immigration bill to the United States Senate with a pathway to citizenship for over 11 million undocumented people in America,” Biden told NBC News this week [Immigration, executive action top Biden preview of first 100 days, by Morgan Chalfant, The Hill, November 24, 2020].

Biden’s neoliberal cabinet may not impose “socialism” on the country—or at least any more than we already have— but it will try to dispossess the Historic American People, with Open Borders for Third World immigrants.

Apparently, Peach State pachyderms have forgotten that Trump won their party’s nomination in 2016—he crushed top-tier opponents Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio in the primary—because he was the lone Republican to stand against Open Borders and, of course, Amnesty. The same platform helped him defeat Hillary Clinton. As president, while he has not passed immigration legislation, he aggressively enforced immigration laws and reduced immigration through executive orders, culminating in a temporary de facto moratorium. Biden vows to reverse everything. This means the issue that animates his movement and defines Trumpism, immigration, should be the focus of the Georgia race.

But Perdue and Loeffler have been mostly mum. Even worse, despite warning of the apocalypse if they lose the Senate, some Republican leaders seem eager to co-operate with Biden. Former Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn and Sen. Lindsey Graham want to work with Biden on an immigration “deal.” Presumed immigration committee chairman Chuck Grassley wants a “deal,” too, although he opposes Biden’s “pathway to citizenship” [Biden win revives immigration talk, by Jordain Carney, The Hill, November 17, 2020]. If the GOP wants a “firewall to socialism,” importing more socialist voters isn’t the way to build it.

Perdue and Loeffler themselves are relatively good on the issue. Perdue distinguished himself in his first Senate campaign as an immigration patriot. A career B+ from Numbers USA, he was one of three Republicans to sponsor the RAISE Act, which would halve legal immigration. He did push for guest-worker exemptions this year, but has not supported Amnesty.

Loeffler rates an A+ from Numbers USA and she supports a Border Wall, increased deportations, and serious immigration reform.

So why are they ignoring the issue in the campaign?

The answer might be Rove, inexplicably put in charge of the state GOP’s fundraising, a lucrative plum that should have gone to a Trump ally. A longtime immigration booster, Rove wanted George W. Bush to push for an Amnesty as soon as he entered the White House. Incredibly, he claimed this Treason Lobby treachery would turn Hispanics into Republicans for generations to come, although in fact he was probably just serving the “Slave Power.” His zeal for the idea is undiminished. Rove seeks a reset to Paul Ryanism, with a focus on perpetual war and catering to Big Business.

Immigration is not the only issue alienating the base. The Georgia GOP Establishment appears eager to abandon Trump, and state party leaders don’t want to change dubious election practices that favor Democrats. Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp has rejected calls for a special legislative session to tighten residency requirements—because it would cost too much money, saying “Any changes to Georgia's election laws made in a special session will not have any impact on an ongoing election and would only result in endless litigation” [Georgia leaders reject calls for special session to change runoff voting rules, by Greg Bluestein, Atlanta Journal-Constitution, November 10, 2020]. The state board of elections has also extended absentee ballot boxes and other tricks the Democrats exploited on November 3rd for the runoffs [Georgia Election Board Extends Rules Governing Drop Boxes, Early Ballot Processing, by Emil Moffatt, WABE, November 23, 2020].

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, widely blamed for Georgia’s voting foul-ups, continues to attack Trump and his supporters for disputing the election results. He has claimed that Trump suppressed his own turnout by warning of the dangers of mail-in ballots. Raffensperger also calls the base a “wild mob” and demands that the GOP condemns ordinary Trump voters for daring to criticize him [Brad Raffensperger: GOP Needs to Decry the Mob on Our Side, by Josh Feldman, Mediaite, November 29, 2020].

Really? Then what about this from conservative journalist Paul Sperry:

Denouncing your own voters while insisting they show up to vote, then permitting your opponents to control the vote, isn’t exactly a brilliant turnout strategy.

And in fact the base isn’t taking this disrespect well. Trump supporters on social media urge boycotting the Georgia runoffs. “THE ONLY WAY OUR VOICES GET HEARD IS by #boycott the vote,” read one viral Parler post [Trump to Campaign for Georgia Senate Candidates as His Supporters Threaten Boycott, by Christina Zhao, Newsweek, November 26, 2020].

Activists within county parties are obviously weary of condescending national GOP leaders. RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, a niece of Mitt Romney, was heckled over the weekend when she spoke at a Cobb County GOP meeting.

An exasperated voter in Marietta asks RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel, “Why should we trust this election when it’s already been decided?” McDaniel says, “It hasn’t been decided!” Another voter shouts out that Republican Governor Brian Kemp is corrupt.

Attendees think their votes won’t count precisely because election officials have allowed Democrats to rig the runoff.

McDaniel pooh-poohed that idea, although the state party has done nothing to correct one-sided election rules. She also told her audience that the party’s main focus is electing Loeffler and Perdue. When the audience members shouted “Donald Trump,” she said the party “will focus on those other things later.”

McDaniel says that she’s focused on electing Loeffler and Perdue in January, prompting a member of the audience to shout “and Donald Trump!”

“We’ve gotta focus on January 5th right now,” McDaniel says. “We can focus on those other things later.” A bunch of people start shouting

This dismissive tone—big surprise! —did not go over well with the audience.

Good thing is, Trump is planning to campaign in Georgia and has urged his supporters to not to boycott the runoff:

Trump’s pitch for Loeffler and Perdue as spoilers for Biden’s agenda might be rhetorically tricky if he hasn’t conceded. On the other hand, in his unpredictable way he could force immigration into the race, compelling Loeffler and Perdue to campaign on it.

The situation in Georgia demonstrates the dismal state the GOP would be in without Trump. Governor Kemp and Secretary of State Raffensperger are the faces of the problem. Both ran as unabashed Trumpists in the 2018 election, with Kemp particularly touting his hardline stance on immigration. The future governor vowed to pick up criminal illegal aliens in his pick-up truck and deport them himself. Since then, he’s done absolutely nothing. Trump has  said he’s now ashamed he endorsed the governor in 2018.

That said, Trump should be a lot more “ashamed” if the party discards his nationalist legacy and hands an illegal-alien Amnesty to the Democrats.

Granted, a GOP Senate majority will likely block Amnesty. For all his perfidy, McConnell does not want to pass bills that would bitterly divide his party. Many Republicans gazing at 2024—Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton—can’t wait to stand as stalwarts against Amnesty. We could even see cucks such as Marco Rubio—who drafted the Gang of Eight Amnesty—oppose it. And opponent Grassley would be unlikely let it out of committee.

Trump could also use his megaphone to keep the party in line.

But disaster is ahead for the Historic American Nation if Democrats win both seats. They could pass Biden’s Amnesty, or even one with no safeguards against future illegal immigration.

Political calculations aside, if the GOP contenders lose, we can blame the brainiacs who thought abandoning the base in 2020 would be a good idea. And if they win, we must credit the voters who ignored the Stupid Party leaders’ idiotic strategery and stood tall for Trumpism.

Rove and his Ryanesque agenda are the past. Trump and his issues are the future.

Hopefully, it will not take a loss finally to deliver that message.
