Hispanics, we have been assured again and again by the spokesmen of Conservatism Inc., are limited government natural conservatives who would flock to the Republican Party if only we’d be more open about immigration.
But the reality is that Hispanics are flocking to Obamacare. They may just tip the scales to bring about its irreversible establishment.
I refer readers to an article of mine back in May of 2012, describing how the Obama campaign ran Spanish language advertising playing up Obamacare as a plus while the Romney camp ran advertising in Spanish pledging to repeal it.
Well, who won the election—and who won the Hispanic vote?
A recent Bloomberg article Obamacare’s Latino Push May Give Democrats Political Edge [by Alison Vekshin, September 29, 2013]spells out pretty clearly what is going on:
The battle over Obamacare is taking on political importance as Democrats hope a successful roll-out among Hispanics will further bind those voters to the Democratic Party and undermine Republican efforts to build more support before the 2016 presidential election.
The Bloomberg article contains the usual sob stories stories about struggling Hispanics with tough situations who need Obamacare. (How about highlighting the struggles of white working class families sometimes?)
But in order to achieve some appearance of balance, the Bloomberg article includes some quotes from a professional Hispanic who is anti-Obamacare: Mario H. Lopez, (email him) president of the Hispanic Leadership Fund, (see James Fulford’s take on him here). Lopez said:
“There’s no question that Obamacare is a disastrous health-care policy for the entire country, including the Latino population. The more you explain, the more people get it.”
I agree that Obamacare is disastrous. But Lopez has not been able to convince many rank and file Hispanics, at least according to polls reported by Bloomberg:
About 61 percent of Hispanics approve of the health-care law, compared with 29 percent of whites and 91 percent of blacks, according to a Pew Research Center and USA Today survey conducted Sept. 4-8.
There you see the stark difference. If the U.S. still had the demographics of 1960, Obamacare wouldn’t be in the running. But then again, if the U.S. had the demographics of 1960, Obama would probably never have been elected.
Of course, the Obama administration is well aware of the high support for Obamacare among Hispanics, and is trying to get as many signed up as possible. In true “community organizer” fashion, the administration has teamed up with organizations such as Voto Latino, and the National Council of La Raza.
There’s even a Spanish-language website corresponding to the English language website, though it’s still not possible to actually apply on it.
As reported by Kaiser Health News, here’s why so many Hispanics are gung-ho for Obamacare:
More than 10 million Latinos are expected to be eligible for new public and subsidized health coverage options, making them the demographic group most likely to benefit from the health law—and a key to its success. They’re more likely to be young—nearly half of Hispanics are under 26 years old. That’s important for the insurance pools, because young and healthy people need fewer medical services, and insurance companies can use their premiums to balance the needs of older or sicker patients.
Hmm, isn’t that the sort of pyramid-scheme argument used for “saving Social Security through immigration”?
In fact, as Jennifer Ng’andu of the National Council of La Raza puts it, “The Latino community is at the crux of the ACA enrollment strategy…” [Online Obamacare Enrollment In Spanish Delayed, by Jenny Gold, WebMD News from Kaiser Health News]
Another part of the Obama coalition: the SEIU (Service Employees International Union), which The Hill reports, “ is launching an online video campaign urging Hispanics to sign up for ObamaCare's new insurance exchanges. ” SEIU promoting ObamaCare to Hispanic workers, By Elise Viebeck, The Hil, September 26, 2013 (See VDARE.COM’s archive on the SEIU here).

SEIU released the first video in a two-part series featuring two young Latino doctors explaining the basics of the Affordable Care Act. The doctors deliver an upbeat message encouraging the uninsured to sign up for the marketplaces, where they might be eligible for federal discounts.
Wow—federal discounts!
So the Obama Administration is using Hispanics as shock troops to institute Obamacare. If the GOP is actually able to defund, delay or abolish the Obamacare program—and I support its attempt—we must expect a full-court press by the media/political/academic complex about how the evil white Republicans are taking away health care from minorities.
How did we get into this situation? I blame the GOP leadership. For years they’ve promoted mass immigration and pandered to Latinos. And what do they have to show for it? They’re still excoriated as “racists” and as the “white party”, despite the fact that they effectively do nothing to help American whites.
Clearly, the GOP needs new leadership—or American patriots need a new party. And fast.
