In a somewhat positive sign, Rand Paul has some kind of (possibly stupid) plan to secure the border, and I guess, assimilate some illegals slowly. He wants this to happen once we have an independent commission (i.e. not run by DC insiders) that examines the border being secure, and analyzing how many get deported.

Like Kris Kobach and Ann Coulter, he quoted Milton Friedman on open borders and welfare.

James Fulford writes: Rand Paul said this on Focal Point  with Bryan Fischer (see video below). His ideas aren’t totally in agreement with VDARE.com’s, but he is right about not allowing immigrants to get welfare. I want to note that whenever they quote Friedman on this, they’re quoting VDARE.com Editor Peter Brimelow too: the quote is from Why Liberalism Is Now Obsolete |Interview With Milton Friedman, by Peter Brimelow, Forbes Magazine, December 12, 1988.

A much more interesting idea from Rand Paul was seen in a Politico interview where he said that a “trade-off” for amnesty  the  would be “not to accept any new legal immigrants while we’re assimilating the ones who are here.” (See Hold On A Minute! Is Rand Paul Also Advocating...An Immigration Moratorium?, by Peter Brimelow.) This is what happened, more or less, after 1924, and it's extremely unusual to see a politician propose it.
