Re: James Kirkpatrick's “It’s Time”—For Affirmative-Action Currency To Symbolize Affirmative-Action Post-America

From: Delmar Jackson [Email him]

I understand there is a push to have dead white men removed from the currency and replaced by a woman, preferably a disadvantaged minority, like Harriet Tubman.

I’d like to suggest people look into nominating my favorite choice to be on our currency, Congresswoman Barbara Jordan from Texas.

Jordan was never a slave like Tubman, but she was a Southern, liberal, Democratic, black lesbian. that should check a lot of boxes.

More importantly, she was an immigration patriot and led the deliberately forgotten bipartisan 1995 Congressional Commission on Immigration.

Democrat Congresswoman Barbara Jordan famously said

“Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave.” [Testimony of Barbara Jordan, Chair, U.S. Commission on Immigration Reform Before the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on the Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration and Claims February 24, 1995 ]

I am not aware Tubman ever concerned herself with saving the nation form endless immigration.

Jordan did. What else matters?
