Report: Donna Brazile mulled trying to replace Clinton with Biden as nominee

Brazile considered the move after Clinton fainted in New York City during the campaign She said Clinton’s campaign headquarters felt like “someone had died.”

Washington (CNN)Donna Brazile, the former interim Democratic National Committee chair, wrote in her new memoir that she considered pushing for the removal of Hillary Clinton from the 2016 ticket and replacing her with then-Vice President Joe Biden, according to a report published Saturday.

The Washington Post, which obtained an advanced copy of her memoir, reported that Brazile wrote that Clinton’s campaign was “anemic” and had taken on “the odor of failure.”

When Clinton fainted on Sept. 11, 2016, in New York City, Brazile deliberated trying to use her position as interim DNC chair to start the process to remove the former secretary of state and her running mate, Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine, and replace them with Biden and New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker.

But then she decided not to.

“I thought of Hillary, and all the women in the country who were so proud of and excited about her. I could not do this to them,” she wrote. …

The group of staffers also accused Brazile of buying into “false Russian-fueled propaganda, spread by both the Russians and our opponent, about our candidate’s health.”

“We do not recognize the campaign she portrays in the book,” reads the letter, which was signed by top aides like Clinton’s confidante Huma Abedin, former campaign chairman John Podesta and former campaign manager Robby Mook.

Brazile’s book, titled “Hacks: The Inside Story of the Break-ins and Breakdowns That Put Donald Trump in the White House,” will be released Tuesday.

In her book, Brazile also alleged an unethical agreement was signed between Clinton’s 2016 campaign and the DNC to keep the party financially afloat.

Brazile wrote the DNC was rigged in Clinton’s favor because her campaign was largely financing the party early on in the presidential election. …

Xochitl Hinojosa, the DNC’s communications director, said in response to Brazile’s allegations that “the DNC must remain neutral in the presidential primary process, and there shouldn’t even be a perception that the DNC is interfering in that process.”

I wrote in Taki’s about replacing Hillary due to ill health four days before her 9/11 breakdown:

Hillary showed up Monday, spoke a few words of her Labor Day oration…and started to cough. And cough. And cough some more. …

Then she got on her airplane, which she allowed the press to ride on for the first time. After having long dodged questions, she even deigned to entertain reporters’ hard-hitting questions about whether all the conspiracy theorizing over her coughing was sexist.

She got rolling on how Putin is conspiring with Trump to make her look bad with leaks, but then broke down coughing again and had to retreat to her lounge.

Still, Hillary is not a good candidate. Regression to the mean suggests she probably won’t have too many days worse than her Labor Day, but Hillary is clearly Trump’s best hope of being elected.

So, if Trump is a risk to blow up the world, isn’t Hillary morally obligated to stand down and let a more electable Democrat run in her place?

Or is that all just talk?

If Hillary announced she were withdrawing due to her health, who would replace her? I’d guess that Tim Kaine, a solid generic Democrat, would move up to the top spot and Sen. Elizabeth Warren would be brought in to fill the women’s spot on the ticket vacated by Hillary.

But Kaine was pretty bad, so I guess Brazile’s choice of Biden made more sense. Booker sounds good on paper, but the black hole of mystery that has been his private life would have made him risky. Is he a Kevin Spacey type? Does he have a white girlfriend? I dunno … Give him a black wife and a black baby and he’d be very promising.

Other plausible names include VP Joe Biden and runner-up Bernie Sanders, with Michelle Obama as an outside possibility for VP.

Moving Kaine up to the top of the ticket then means there’s no woman on the ticket, so I was figuring Warren, but Michelle would tick the woman and black boxes.

It’s worth remembering that in-between my 9/7/16 column and Hillary’s 9/11 collapse came her Basket of Deplorables speech, which didn’t exactly suppress turnout among voters who didn’t like here:

Brazile writes that she was haunted by the still-unsolved murder of DNC data staffer Seth Rich and feared for her own life, shutting the blinds to her office window so snipers could not see her and installing surveillance cameras at her home.

I don’t have an opinion on WhoDunIt, but I’d like to see this murder case finally solved. Rich seemed like a good guy and his killer should be brought to justice.
