September 29 is Michaelmas—the Feast of Michael and All Angels.

I’ve written about St. Michael before, but I have become particularly aware of him since moving to Berkeley Springs, WV. Despairing of my hereditary Episcopalian Church, I now escort Lydia and my three Papist daughters to her local Catholic church where the (immigrant Filipino) priest has reinstated the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel, formerly recited after Mass, abandoned during the Vatican II reforms but now optional. He opts in:

St. Michael the Archangel, 
defend us in battle. 
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. 
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, 
and do thou, 
O Prince of the heavenly hosts, 
by the power of God, 
thrust into hell Satan, 
and all the evil spirits, 
who prowl about the world 
seeking the ruin of souls.

Amen.

In these stressed times, I find its stark formulation useful, for example in explaining to the girls why we won’t take them to Disney World.

American Renaissance’s Jared Taylor, himself the son of Presbyterian missionaries to Japan, tells me:

To my surprise, it turns out that Saints have flags. In St Michael’s case, it’s a blue Greek Cross on a white background—just as St. George’s flag, the flag of England, is a red Greek Cross on a white background.

I hope to see a lot more of both.

Oh, and tonight is also Yom Kippur.

It has become a multicultural must to step on Christmas by never mentioning it except in connection with Hanukkah and other “holidays.“ Somehow, however, the MSM neglects to provide the nearest Saint’s day in the Christian calendar to each year’s Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Passover—there are a lot of saints!

So it has become a VDARE.com service (as so often) to fill the gap.
