The mayor tweeted: “I Magid Magid, Lord Mayor & first citizen of this city hereby declare that not only is Donald J Trump a WASTEMAN, but he is also henceforth banned from the great city of Sheffield!
“I further declare July 13th to be Mexico Solidarity Day!”
Is wearing a sombrero a symbol of solidarity, cultural appropriation, or political incorrectness?
In America, fraternities and sororities are constantly getting disciplined for throwing margarita-themed parties wear guests were sombreros, but how is a Lord Mayor supposed to be up to date on such refinements?
It appears that the huge number of Mexican fans who flew to Russia for Mexico’s usual four-game World Cup wore sombreros everywhere and were vastly popular with the locals (or at least with those not having to sit behind the sombrero-wearers at the games).
According to the Los Angeles Times, Mexicans were the Russians’ favorite visitors:

… Much of Russia has become inundated with Mexican fans over the last three weeks and the locals, who tend to see life through a much darker lens, have been quick to welcome them, fascinated by both their number and their passion.
Mexico and Russia have quite a lot in common, such as corruption, traffic accidents, and homicides.
