I wouldn’t be surprised if a Democratic Presidential candidate soon announces a new Moonshot Project for the Current Decade: America must spend however many billions (or trillions) it takes to make it technologically possible for same-sex couples to reproduce.
Women have to do all the Emotional Labor, why should they also have to do all the Labor Labor?
Same Sex Fertility Is Who We Are.
As a new John F. Kennedy (Julian Castro?*) will probably say shortly:
First, I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of having a man have a baby. … But why, some say, a baby? Why choose this as our goal? And they may well ask why climb the highest mountain? Why, 35 years ago, fly the Atlantic? Why does Rice play Texas?
We choose for a man to have a baby.
No, wait … I’ve got a better idea.
We choose for a man to abort his baby!
An undocumented worker man aborting his baby with taxpayer-funded free healthcare!
(I can’t wait to see how this polls with Democratic single women.)
* In case you don’t remember Castro’s riff in the Democratic debate:
CASTRO: Yes, it would. I don’t believe only in reproductive freedom, I believe in reproductive justice.
(APPLAUSE)
And, you know, what that means is that just because a woman — or let’s also not forget someone in the trans community, a trans female, is poor, doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have the right to exercise that right to choose. And so I absolutely would cover the right to have an abortion.
From Reproductive Freedom to Reproductive Justice to Reproductive Equity … This train is rolling down the track and there’s no stopping it.
