Earlier: Democratic Platform to White People: We Hate You

It does not look upon them favorably. Excepting the proper noun “White House” and an instance in reference to the Ryan White fund, the following excerpts exhaustively contextualize contemporary official Democrat doctrine on whites and whiteness:

We will give hate no safe harbor. We will never amplify or legitimize the voices of bigotry, racism, misogyny, anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, or white supremacy. Democrats will protect and promote the equal rights of all our citizens—women, LGBTQ+ people, religious minorities, people with disabilities, Native Americans, and all who have been discriminated against in too many ways and for too many generations.

The string “white” makes 23 appearances in the document but is notably absent from the list of “all our citizens.”

Median incomes are lower and poverty rates are higher for Black Americans, Latinos, Native Americans, and some Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, compared to median white households.

Some Asians? What about most Asians? There are some blacks and some Latinos who have higher median incomes and lower poverty rates than whites, too.

We cannot hope to raise wages without taking on the profound racial biases at work in our employment system. The wage gap between Black workers and white workers is higher today than it was 20 years ago. It takes a typical Black woman 19 months to earn what a typical white man earns in 12 months—and for typical Latinas and Native American women, it takes almost two years.

No word on how long it takes the typical Asian woman to earn what the typical white man earns in a year.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the uninsured rate was nearly three times higher for Latinos and nearly twice as high for Black Americans as it was for whites. Some segments of the Asian American and Pacific Islander population faced uninsured rates rivaling those of Black Americans and Latinos, and more than one in five Native Americans and Alaska Natives was uninsured. Black children are far more likely than white children to suffer from asthma. Latinos, Native Americans, Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, and Black Americans are diagnosed with diabetes at higher rates than whites.

Lacking insurance, having asthma, or being diagnosed with diabetes are sad and unfortunate things. Working to alleviate those conditions is a noble endeavor. How about the most all-encompassing measure, life expectancy? On average, Hispanics live nearly four years longer than whites do. Asians live over seven years longer.

If Asians get to put forth the Hmong for sufferance sympathy, are whites allowed to have Scots-Irish Appalachians represent them? The median income in overwhelmingly white West Virginia is lower than the median income is for Latinos and American Indians nationwide.

Black women are more than three times as likely to die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth compared to white women.

They are also three times as likely to die from complications of pregnancy and childbirth compared to Hispanic and Asian women, who have pregnancy-related death rates at parity with white women.

President Trump’s words and actions have given safe harbor and encouragement to bigots, anti-Semites, Islamophobes, and white supremacists.

Has there ever been a more pro-Jewish president than Donald Trump? My impression is that anti-Semites despise him.

In the context of law, “safe harbor” refers to a legal provision protecting against liability. To the extent Trump is shielding these miscreants as they engage in illegal activity, more power to the DNC for holding him and them to account for it. If the “safe harbor” being alluded to is the first amendment of the US Constitution, on the other hand…

The extreme gap in household wealth and income between people of color—especially Black Americans, Latinos, and Native Americans—and white families is hurting our working class and holding our country back.

Is the gap between white and Asian Americans correspondingly helping? If all the other gaps were as unfavorable for whites as the white-Asian gap is, would the objective have been met? One wonders how “our working class” whites feel about this. One outside the DNC drafting committee, that is.

We will confront white nationalist terrorism and combat hate crimes perpetrated against religious minorities.

Let’s do one better and combat crimes of all kinds perpetrated against religious minorities, religious majorities, the irreligious, and everyone in between. Perhaps we can begin by combating crimes perpetrated against storefront businesses in many of our major cities.

Each year, the United States spends $23 billion more on schools in predominantly white districts than in non-white districts.

Is this on a per capita basis? If it’s merely descriptive in absolute terms, it doesn’t clarify much since there are more “predominantly white districts” than there are non-white ones. Four of the five lowest per capita spending school districts in the country are in Idaho. Of the five highest per spending school districts in the country, by contrast, three are in New Jersey, one is in New York, and one is the District of Columbia.

In any event, the US spends the fifth most money per student of all the countries in the world. Whatever the answer, money isn’t it.

We will root out systemic racism from our military justice system, where black service members are twice as likely as white ones to face court-martial.

Are black (they forgot to capitalize the “b” here) service members twice as likely or more to engage in activities deserving of court-martial? If so, it sounds like the system is functioning well enough. If not, then three cheers for deracination.

Democrats recognize that the threat landscape has evolved dramatically since September 11. Our counterterrorism priorities, footprint, and tools should shift accordingly, including to respond to the growing threat from white supremacist and other right-wing terrorist groups.

They’re the ones killing people in the streets and burning down government buildings, so this makes sense. It wouldn’t have in 1995, of course, but it does today!
