James Fulford and Steve Sailer have both memorialized James Q. Wilson (
here and
here) but neither mentioned his peculiar lack of interest in immigration—especially when his celebrated "Broken Windows Theory" could
so easily have been applied to the problem of illegal immigration. What VDARE.com has called "strategic deportation", seizing and deporting public flaunters of their illegal status like
commencement speakers and
demonstrators would send a message (which is why the Obama Administration
doesn't want to do it). I vaguely recall a throwaway pro-immigration reference in a
Commentary article, quite possibly insisted upon by the editors, but that seems to be about it.
Like Charles Murray, Wilson apparently decided there was a limit to the taboos he wished to challenge.
